Officer Foster was selected as a K-9 Handler for the Cypress Police Department February 3, 1999, making him the ninth K-9 Handler since the inception of the K-9 Program in September 1982.  Officer Foster replaced Officer Tom Bruce who served as a K-9 Handler from February 1992 through February 1999. 

‘Karlo’ is the Cypress Police Department’s ninth K-9.  ‘Karlo’ replaced ‘Ajax’ who retired February 6, 1999, after completing nearly six years of service. ‘Ajax’ passed away on August 24, 2000, from bloat.  ‘Karlo’s’ true full name is ‘Karlo Sorex’.  He was born on October 1, 1996, in the eastern European country of Slovakia.  ‘Karlo’ earned his SVV 1 title rating and his IPO 1 title rating in June 1998, and his IPO 2 title rating in July 1998.  ‘Karlo’ was imported from Slovakia January 1999. Officer Foster took possession of ‘Karlo’ February 5, 1999. Both Officer Foster and ‘Karlo’ attended the Basic K-9 Handlers’ Course at Adler horst International Inc., from March 15,1999, through April 16, 1999.  Officer Foster and ‘Karlo’ began working together as a K-9 Team April 19, 1999. 

Officer Foster and his partner, ‘Karlo’ completed a variety of tasks and responsibilities during there time together.  They assisted the SWAT Team, patrol officers, and other police agencies as needed.  ‘Karlo’ was also crossed trained as a narcotics detection canine that assisted patrol officers, Detectives from the Special Enforcement Team, and outside law enforcement agencies in locating illegal narcotics concealed by suspects.  Officer Foster and ‘Karlo’ also completed several community demonstrations displaying their unique qualities and skills.

 Scott and ‘Karlo’ spent many years together fighting crime and serving the community.  Although ‘Karlo’ is now officially retired from the department he will live out the remainder of his life with his life long partner, Officer Foster, as a family pet.  We wish them both the best and thank them for their dedicated service to the department and the citizens of Cypress.
