Officer Juan Carrillo was
honored as the 2005 Officer of the Year. Officer Carrillo
was hired by the Cypress Police Department on August 3,
1998, as a Police Officer Trainee. He was promoted to
police officer on January 30, 1999. Officer Carrillo is
currently assigned to the Orange County Joint Terrorist Task
Force. In addition, he is a member of the department’s
special weapons and tactics team (S.W.A.T.), has worked
unformed patrol, narcotics, and has been a police training
officer. He also possesses his Basic and Intermediate Peace
Officer Standards and Training certificates.
In addition to receiving
this year’s officer of the year award, Officer Carrillo was
awarded the Cypress Police Department’s Medal of Valor.
Officer Carrillo’s actions during a confrontation with an
armed and violent offender during a S.W.A.T. Team operation,
very likely could have resulted in injury or death to
Officer Carrillo or several other officers. His quick and
decisive action, taken under intense weapons fire, was
conspicuously heroic and in keeping with the finest
traditions of the Cypress Police Department.
