I pray the peace of God is with the Sowma Family through this time. The Law Enforcement family will never forget Sergeant Sowma’s sacrifice.
On behalf of the men and women of the Cypress Police Officer's Association, I want to thank all those who have supported the Sowma Family in thier efforts to see that justice done.
I hope this cold blooded killer spends the rest of his life in prison where he belongs.
In the 32 years since we lost an americcan hero, the liberal legislature has done nothing but make the situation worse. My heart goes out to all that are affected by the heinous environment that they have created for us. I am always deeply saddened when a hero forfiets his life protecting us from the scum they have helped to create. God Bless
My heart goes out to your family! I cannot begin to imagine the incredible loss to you, your children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren! I believe your husband's killer should spend the rest of his life in prison. Your husband is no longer here, getting a chance at a normal life so why should his killer get that opportunity!? Peace be with you - you are in my prayers. Karen Cogan Victorville, CA
My thoughts and prayers are with the Sowma family. Sergeant Sowma made the ultimate sacrifice and the killer should not be let back out onto the streets.
Don Sowma Rest in Peace...Sowma family Live in Peace
Fight On...
No parole for COp kIllers!
God bless you and your family, and it is only just that the killer remain in prison for the rest of his life; he made that choice.
Of course this inmate should NEVER parole. Tell me how that's possible. My prayers go out to the friends and family of the Sowma's. Stay strong!
My prayers go out to Sergeant Sowma's family and friends. As the law enforcement family we must be united and stand together insure cop killers are not set free.
My heart goes out to all of you. May god give you strength, the cop killer is where he belongs. You are in my prayers. GOD BLESS. Jennifer Webb, Gardena, Ca.
I am sorry for your loss and the pain over the years. I hope he dies in prison. p.s. Nice website, Don would be proud.
God Bless the Sowma family.
I pray for peace for the Sowma family, and justice to continually be served to Mr. Denney. Do not let this man out to ruin yet another family. God be with you Sowma's. Carol Reed, Riverside, CA
A cop killer should never under any circumstances be freed from jail. There is never an excuse to kill a cop in the line of duty.
May the Sowma family find some peace in knowing that Sgt. Sowma died that others may live. This is truly the greatest and most valiant sacrifice. I know that ther will be a very happy reunion waiting for you all on the other side and this will be but a small moment in the eternal perspective. His legacy will live on and certainly does through the pride and respect of the Sowma Family.
God bless this family, A cop killer should never see the light of day.
I am a retired Police Officer with the an Orange Co Police Dept and was working the day Sgt Sowma was murdered; it sticks with you forever. We must all do what it takes to keep this coward in jail until he rotts.
It is rediculous to even consider parole. He made the choice before he pulled the trigger. He need to pay for his sins. Death would be more fitting and less cost to the general public.
My thoughts go out to you all in hopes that this murderer isn't let out!!
My heart goes out to you and your family. I personally do not believe anyone who takes a life, causing long term disabilities to another person, nor anyone who harms a child should ever be set free to repeat the offense. Please know you are in my prayers.
God bless you and be strong
GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Keep cop killers off the streets!
As a previous police officer, he knew exactly what he was doing. This man should never leave California prison again until it's in a box. I'm from a long line of peace officers' family and my heart and prayers go out to the Sowma family. Jan Rogers, Polson, Montana
Something is seriouly wrong with a system that sentences a murderer to "life without parole" on one hand and paroles him with the other. God Bless the friends, co-workers and most of all, the families of our fallen heroes.
I know how difficult this ordeal has been for you and your family. I could offer many of the same sentiments regarding justice that many of the other commentators have made, however there is a possibility that you many not see the kind of justice you hope for. But I want you know that the Lord promises us justice in his time. I have no doubt that Denny will give account for his actions when he meets his maker; he will be judged. My prayer for you is that you come to forgive him - I am told that true peace and consolation comes in the ability to forgive as we ourselves have been forgiven. In Christ, Norma Legarreta, SFS Ca.
In valor, there is hope. God bless my brothers and sisters.
My thoughts are with this family as my son is also an officer and I think about this terrible thing they have had to endure. God Bless all of them.
"Do unto others as you would have others do unto you..." Denney made the decision to murder a law enforcement officer. With that said, well, refer to the quote above. For those still struggling to understand, plainly put, he doesn't deserve to live...
I pray that justice is served in this case for the sake of the Sowma family, the men and women of the Cypress Police Department and our community and society as a whole.
I usually only scream out at the pain some rats bring to others, maybe in some small way I can do something besides being frustrated. bh
Thank you, dh
Your Web site is great I think there should be more communication between agencies like this one
As a retired Police Sergeant I find this disgusting but all too familiar. God Bless this family. Jim Tennell Sgt. Retired, Riverside Ca. P.D.
The bASTARD SHOULD OF BEEN GIVEN THE NEDLE IN THE ARM OR A SHOCK TO HIS NERVIOUS SYSTEM. yES , I AM A RETIRED CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICER AND FEEL THE NO GOOD PUNK DID NOT DESERVE ANY SPECIAL FAVOR .GET RID OF SOME OF OUR TRASH THAT ARE IN PRISON AND MAKE ALL OUR LIVES EASYER. SOME OF OUR JUDGES SHOULD BE THE VICTIMS AND LET THEM SUFFER IN PLACE OF BOILS ON THEIR BACKSIDE FROM SETTING ON IT TOO LONG.
Keep up the good fight ! Continue to watch over the family of a fallen comrade. Best wishes in your fight. Detective David Beatty CVPD
6/18/08 I was a California peace officer from 1973-1997. I am a Nevada police officer and have been for ten years. I believe that, when a police officer is killed, a little part of our society dies. This murderer does not deserve parole. Officer Michael Mangiaracina
I like this, if this helps to keep Murders in prison and off our streets, it could bring closure to the survivors. My husband end of watch, 7/4/1977
Sergeant Sowma paid the ultimate price for Denney's greed and cowardice. Sergeant Sowma can't be released from his "sentence" and neither can his family. Why should this selfish coward receive a more lenient sentence than his victim?
It takes love and courage to do this petition. My heart goes out to Sgt. Sowma's family. Your doing the right thing. You have my support.
It's unfortunate that times have come when we need to fill out a petition to keep the murderer of a Policeman in jail. As much as I would like to see Denney put to death, I can only ask that the parole board use some common sense and keep him in custody. I hope I have not asked for to much.
As a working police officer in Northern CA in 1976, I remenber reading about Sgt. Sowma's murder. Though I never meet Don my thoughts and prayers are still with you. If there is anything else I can do, beyond signing the petition, please let me know......Clancy Faria, Windsor, CA
God Bless
What kind of example are we setting to the rest of the public if we let a person who kills a police officer in "cold blood" off the hook!!! This man took an officer's life and he too should lose his life by spending it in prison! My prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Sergeant Sowma.
COP KILLERS MUST NEVER BE LET LOOSE, EVER !! I AM WAITING FOR THE TRIAL OF MY CHP SON'S KILLER, AND I WANT HIM TO PAY DEARLY FOR HIS HEINOUS ACT. PEACE TO THE SOWMA FAMILY.
I would like to know why the murder of a police officer is not an automatic death penalty. I also am a retired police officer who had a fellow police officer murdered on my department.
Sgt Sowma made the ultimate sacrifice one year before I became an officer with the California Highway Patrol. I retired last year. Sgt Sowma would have long since retired, and would have been enjoying life with his family were it not for his killer. During my 30 years of service I attended too many funerals of these true American heroes. Something is wrong with our system when the liberal courts consistently fail to penalize these murderers the way the citizens want and voted for? Denney made the choice to take the life of a police officer. He should pay with his. But, due to our court system, my hope now is that he will never be granted parole. My heartfelt thanks to Sgt Sowma for his dedicated service to the citizens of the City of Cypress, the citizens of the State of California, and to all of law enforcement as well. My prayers go to out to his family. Richard C. Hoffpauer CHP retired
I hope this guy never gets out....
I've read the killer was transferred to Oklahoma, so as to be closer to his parents. Where does the family go to visit Sergeant Sowma, the husband and father? Please keep Denny behind bars. That is small enough justice for the life he stole and the wife and children he robbed.
As a former CHP STO I'm disappointed in the penal system for allowing this criminal a chance at parole with a life without parole sentence. My prayers are with you in this battle for justice.
Dear Sowma Family, As the mother of a murdered child, I understand the devastation that this murderer has left in your life. It is a lifelong sentence for you and he should receive no less. Rita Edmonds-Norris, Fairfield, CA
My thoughts and prayers goes out to the Sowma Family. I'm sorry for your loss.
Date: 6/19/08 Time: 10:00a.m. Your website was very clear. This man should never get out of prison. I am a mother of a murdered son. So I know just what this family is going through
As a Peace Officer (retired) I faced the fear of leaving my wife and children without their man via some crazed or cold-blooded killer. One fewer of such "out there" is a good idea, regardless of his age. Keep him in prison. As for the family, my condolences for what you have endured, both then and now that you must face his possible release. Craig Burke
Speaking for the Oxnard Police Department, it is our prayer that this killer complete his term of life without parole.
He should have received the DEATH penalty automatically, and then we would not be worrying about his parole.
Why wasn't he executed in the first place!!!???
The injustice. Since when does life without the possibility of parole mean something else? As president of Crime Survivors, Inc. I am saddened by the chance that his family may once again be victimized. My prayers, and I am sure those of all other victims rights advocates, are with Sgt. Swoma's family. Sincerely, Vince De Vargas 714-349-7893
I do not care if he is 166, NO parole.
My families thoughts and prayers are with the Sowma family during this difficult time. If we all band together this murderer will stay behind bars. God Bless Dep. S. Hilliard OCSD Dana Point
Prayers to the Sowma family. Continue to live through your children, memories and faith. Be strong and you will rejoice in His rewards. Riverside, CA
Great site! God Bless and may Sergeant Sowma's killer stay in prison...
I REMEMBER THE INCIDENT INTIMATELY. I WAS WORKING GRAVEYARD WEST END SERGEANT A.P.D. THAT NIGHT. CYPRESS HAD NO SUPERVISORS TO HANDLE THE CALL SO ANAHEIM SENT ME THERE TO ASSIST. I HANDLED THE SCENE UNTIL CYPRESS BRASS SHOWED UP. A FIRE TRUCK WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OF WHAT I REMEMBER AS A MEDICAL BUILDING. FIREMEN WORKING ON SOWMA LAYING ON THE GROUND. I RECALL HIS EYES CLOSED BUT TEARS HAD ROLLED DOWN HIS CHEEKS. THE SUSPECT WAS STILL IN THE BUILDING. I REQUESTED ANAHEIM’S SWAT TO RESPOND, BUT I DON’T REALLY RECALL HOW THE SUSPECT WAS CAPTURED. I ESTABLISHED THE PRESS RESPONSE LOCATION. I REMEMBER GOING OD TO THE STATION AND HAVING QUITE AN EVENT OF HYPERVENTILATING INSIDE THE WC OFFICE. I STILL HAVE THE PRESS CLIPPINGS OF THAT NIGHT. TOO BAD THE SUSPECT LIVED THAT NIGHT. C.W. FARROW, ANAHEIM POLICE, SGT, RETIRED
AFTER READING THE PETTION, IT SADDENS ME TO KNOW THAT AN (EX-) OFFICER KILLED ANOTHER OFFICER. I AM A POLICE OFFICER ALSO AND I BELIEVE THAT ALL OFFICER'S ARE PART OF A LARGE, STRONG FAMILY (BROTHERS & SISTERS). I CALL THIS SITUATION A VERY POOR BACK GROUND INVESTIGATION. TO HIRE A CRIMINAL AS AN OFFICER. ANYONE WHO INTENTIONALLY KILLS SOMEONE ELSE, OFFICER OR NOT, DURING THE COMMISSION OF COMMITTING A CRIME SHOULD AUTOMATICALLY BE SENTENCED TO A LIFE SENTENCE WITHOUT PAROLE, DEATH SENTENCE IF WE HAD IT. I SEND MY PRAYERS OUT TO THE FAMILY AND WISH THEM LUCK WITH THIS PETETION.
Can't write what I want to say here!
I hope that justice prevails and Sgt. Sowma's murderer rots in prison. No kindness for murdering a police officer.
This guy needs to be on death row, not before a parole board.
Sergeant Sowma deserves better. I would hope that the California Parole Board has better judgment and values than to release the killer, dishonor the officer's sacrifice and endanger the public all with one reckless, misguided decision.
First of all I would like to send my deepest heart felt condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Sowma. My partner and best friend Sergio Carrera Jr. was killed in the line of duty on 10/18/2007. For the family and friends of the HERO, the pain never goes away no matter how much time has passed. The parole of this COWARD would be an injustice to the family and to all who wear the badge! May he live out the rest of his pathetic days in prison. Lamont Quarker, Rialto P.D.
Date: 19 Jun 2008 Time: 00:24:30 Comments May God pour His many blessing upon the Sowma Family, friends and associates. Great web-site.
Stay STRONG Sowma family.........
I think that he should be givin the death penalty. What gives him the right to take another persons life
I just want to thank all the men and women of the different police agencies for your bravery in putting your lives on the line to save ours...how dare they even think of letting this guy out!!! Also, your web site is fabulous...
what do they think is life without the possibility of parole?
Your sacrifice was not in vain. One family, one purpose.
One thing worse than a killer is a cop killer, the only thing worse than that, is a former cop turned cop killer. Leave him where he belongs - in California, away from his family, even that will not be as bad as what the Sowma family has endured. God bless the Sowma family, God bless and keep safe all of our peace officers, all over our beautiful Country. Thank you for allowing me to sign your petition!
NO PAROLE MEANS "NO PAROLE!!!" Why should he be granted to live his life out with his family? He didn't give that opportunity to Sgt. Sowma. Good luck. You'll be in our prayers.
It would be an injustice to allow this scum to walk the streets after taking the life of a man who took an oath to protect the citizens of this city. We must rise up as neighbors and friends to honor this man and his family by not allowing this killer any freedom.
God bless the Sowma Family
I'm proud to sign this petition so a hero like Sgt. Sowma is delivered justice after he paid the ultimate price for protecting us. It is unfair that his life was taken and we have to be his voice now. Thank you to all who sign, Sgt. Sowma, all law enforcement and their families.
God Bless the Sowma family. It is shameful of out justice system that we are even in this situation.
It appears only criminals have rights. Our court system needs to protect victims and keep murderers off our streets. God bless the Sowma Family and all law enforcement officers!
This was a great injustice, not only for Sergeant Sowma who was only doing his job, but for his family members.
As a Survivor of a home residential robbery and rape of my daughter plus the murder of my husband, I cannot understand how anyone can think of releasing this man especially if he had 'life in prison WITHOUT possibility of parole'? I have two in prison with the same sentence....will they get out too? I am praying for your family, Cheryl Ward-Kaiser, Salinas, CA.
Kill a cop, go to jail 9and stay there) or worse.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Let's all do our part to see this monster stay where he belongs, behind bars!!!!
God Bless the Sowma Family! We stand with you!
God Bless the Sowma Family! We stand with you!
I knew and worked with Don...and my partner, Jim McVeigh and I responded to that burglary call from our neighboring department (LaPalma PD). A little bit of all of us died that night at the scene of Don's death - we were brothers and sisters of justice. I still have faith in that system and pray that Don's killer will never go free, please God. D.Senecal
No violent act like the cop killer in this case should be paroled.
The Law Enforcement family will always have Sergeant Sowma in their hearts.
I RECOMMEND BOBBY JOE BE CONSIDERED FOR POROLE JUST AS SOON AS SGT.SOWMA IS REINCANATED AND NOT A MINUTE BEFORE.
My mother-in-law responded to that call. Her story has been handed down to second and third generations. This killer cannot go free!
My brother is a sergeant at SAnta Ana P.D. I couldn't imagine if I and all of our family and friends lost him. That guy should serve his sentance and stay there. He killed someone, now finish the sentance. Bruce Steen
My Mom was on patrol that night for LaPalma PD and also responded to the scene. (Doris Senecal) She knew Don Sowma as a fellow officer. We lived in Cypress at Walker and Lime Avenue and I remember the funeral procession going down Walker. It was terribly sad. My prayers go out to his family and I hope his murderer is never released. It's the least I can do in the memory of a fallen officer to sign the petition. Michele Senecal Laughlin (Oregon)
Our thoughts are with Sergeant Sowma's family.
There is no way this man should ever walk amongst us and the rest of society. He deprived Officer Sowma's family, (both children/grandchildren), friends, and extended family of his love and life. What makes that "Animal" think his life is worth more than a person, who respected and upheld the most basic laws of man and God. As far as I'm concerned, everyday he wakes up to a new day, he's being paroled. Keep him locked up and let him serve his sentence in prison.
God bless you and your family
Please do not grant parole. Any crime of murder should not be granted parole. Especally for a police officer
Keep this killer behind prison bars, where he belongs. Do not parole this murderer.
God bless your family. Denny does not deserve any second chance because he knew exactly what he was doing. His actions were nothing less than completely selfish and cowardice, and no amount of time or "rehabilitation" will ever change that...his only solice should be that he was not killed for his actions.
Our strength lies within our bonds to each other in the law enforcement family. We support our fallen brothers and sisters, thought they may be gone from us, they will never be forgotten by us. Peace to the family and friends. For those who stand outside of society, we will be there to carry the fight to you.
This criminal with his background and his family's background in law enforcement shows no respect for officers of the law and their committment to their country and community. He should never walk free. Ever..........
I feel and eye for an eye should be the sentence in this case, but we are in America and sometimes the bad guys get to live out their days in prison. Considering the powers found it unjust to make it an eye for and eye, I feel he should serve the lesser sentence of live in prison without parole. I am very sorry for your loss, Deputy J. Wildblood
God Bless you and your family....
When someone has the gall to kill a law enforcement officer, it puts all of us at risk. A killer of a police officer should serve his sentence without parole to show others.
God bless the Sowma family!
Bobby Joe Denney should spend the rest of his life in prison!! The one thing worse than a cop killer, is a cop killer on the loose!!
As a deputy and father of 3, you have my most sincere condolences. I wish you justice and peace.
I'm behind you all 100% , I know you would do the same for my family. Let me know if there is anything else we can do.
The dude must rot in prison
This piece of subhuman trash should have gone to the gas chamber or electric chair decades ago. I resent the fact that taxpayers have been paying for his upkeep all this time. In an ideal world, he would have gone 10-07 immediately after he was found guilty. Absolutely no reason for him to live then or now. Since we didnt burn or gas him, the VERY least we can do is make sure that he dies behind bars and the sooner the better.
this is a request to keep in jail the man who killed Sgt. Sowma. I will pray that he gets saved by our Lord Jesus Christ but he needs to stay in jail and do a prison ministry. thank you
May god bless and keep you.
We are so sorry for your family's loss...may you have the courage to continue your fight to keep this murderer in prison. J. and A. Lopez Corona, CA
As an officer and wife of an officer, I pray that cop killers are not ever allowed parole. I have attended too many funerals to officers I worked with. Recently Officer Sergio Carerra's,Rialto P.D. Neely Nakamura, Riverside P.D.
I love my Uncle Mike! I will do anything I can to help out him and his family. God Bless, Liz
Please don't hesitate to call on me, my family or any of your brother / sister officers at the Seal Beach Police Department for any assistance needed to keep this cop killer in jail where he belongs. Sergeant Soma may you rest in peace.
May God give the Sowma Family and the Cypress Police Department Family peace. May his memory live on with you always and may you always remember everything that made him special to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
NSIFMB....Never Shall I Fail My Brother
Keep up your efforts on this. The video was very well done. I so admire you for having the strength to fight this after everything you as a family have already suffered. I am sure the petition will help. I will be sure to forward this. Continued good thoughts to you and your family, Theresa Maile
My heart and prayers are with the Sowma family.
HE TOOK A LIFE SO HE SHOULD END HIS LIFE IN JAIL... NO PAROLE.
That man should never had been able to be close to any of his family. He took the husband and father away they can never visit. May GOD hold your families strong and give you peace to still carry on.... NO PAROLE..........
My and My families prayers are with the Sowma family throught this trying time.
It's repulsive to even think this animal might be released. What I truly feel inside I can not say on here.
This MONSTER should have been put to death a long time ago for his crimes. Since that didn't happen, we need to do everything we can to keep him in prison until his death. RIP Sergeant Sowma. Detective Yocum, LA Sheriffs, Century
Together we stand. One team. One family. Never forget our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice.
God Bless and RIP Sgt. SOWMA. Let this killer remain where he should spend his final days confined to a cell with the rest of society’s criminals. If this man would victimize a police officer what would he do to an unarmed citizen?
Those of us in the brotherhood NEVER forget the fallen. God bless Sgt. Sowma and his family.
As a wife of a sheriff, I can only imagine the pain this individual has cause. He should spend the rest of his life in prison, where he belongs.
May Peace be with the Sowma Family now and Forever. Absolutely NO PAROLE for anyone who commits any heinous acts against ANY law enforcement office. NO PAROLE!!!
May he never get out!!!
Based on being sentenced to life without parole, it would be a travesty if the parole board decides to parole a covicted cop killer. Also what would this decision be telling the Law Enforcement community and the crooks.
May it help in some small way to know a prayer was said for you and your family today. God Bless you.
Wow! Our government makes it so hard when its so easy. Kill someone, especially a cop, and you should pay with your own life or at the very least your entire life in prison. It is horrible that our government and its officials continue to make the victim's and their families suffer and worry about things like this. The Sowma Family should have been assured the day the killer was convicted that they would never have to worry about him again (dead or alive)!!!! Maybe someday the powers to be will utilize common sense in their decisions. I hope it happens when I'm still around. My Prayers are with the Sowna family and all the other families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty. DBL / ESPD
Sergeant Sowma will not come back to his family. Why should the cowardly cop killer? He deserves to die in prison.
God bless and keep the peacemakers....our peace officers.
May the Lord bring you peace and comfort. I pray that your prayers are answered. Evan W. Wollk Woodridge, ILL
I am happy to donate a portion of my taxes to keep this criminal in prison until he pays his debt to Sgt Sowma's family and to society. However, I don't believe that debt will be paid up in Denny's lifetime. We had no say in his decision to murder, but perhaps our voices will be heard in the decision to hold him accountable. God bless the Sowma family and remember he is not forgotten. Lt Carlson Placentia PD
My prayers go out to the Sowma Family. This scum bag deserves to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
I don't understand why this has even become an issue. Dear Sowma family, you should have never had to think about a petition. I cannot comprehend how our justice system has let this happen. Why have we allowed our country to arrive at a place where cop killers are considered for parole? Not only does this devastate the victim's family, it surely doesn't set a good example for the person that contemplates committing a crime. God bless you in your efforts. I truly hope this cop killer stays in prison for the rest of his life.
God Bless the women and men that protect our country!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sowma family, cop killers should never be paroled! May he never know freedom and hopefully gasp his last breath in prison where he belongs!
As a retired police sergeant with a son and wife in law enforcement. it is my sincere belief that the greatest loss to any community is the loss of an officer in the line of duty. It is an honor to sign and forward this petition in the memory of your husband. Bill Crawford Retired Sgt. Monrovia Police Department 1979-2002
ZERO TOLERANCE FOR COP KILLERS!! Prayers and support for the Sowma family and to my brothers and sisters at Cypress PD. - RJF/El Segundo PD
Cop Killers need to get a DEATH sentence,,,, Parole's a silly joke!
This man chose to take a life and he should be denied his life, the right of the officer he killed has no chance of seeing his children or grand children they lost him and he's gone forever. So should this man, he's still alive which he should be thankful but he should spend his life in jail without chance of parole. I don't care how sorry he is or is not the taking of a life should be that he should give up his life. I prefer that they take his life but him setting in jail for the remainder of his life is his doom.
God Bless the Sowma Family, and Cypress PD
Whenever an adult decides to take the life of a police officer as this person did, during a commission of another felonious crime, I believe the person is incapable of being rehibilitated and therefore is a tremendous threat to society as a whole. Short of the death penalty, the only other way to deal with this type of public threat is to put them away for the rest of their life! Somethings are unforgivable, killing a police officer is and should be one of them!
God bless you and your family, have faith.
My prayers go to the Sowma family during this time. 30 years later they have to go through the grieving process once again.
Thank you to the Sowma family for creating such a petition. I am sorry for your loss.
Individuals who shoot a police officer should never be released into society again. They are not worthy of sharing in the freedoms of being an American citizen. God bless and keep the Sowma family safe.
"..denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn’t so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling. Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level." Do not deny the evil of men. Do not let this man free!!
I do not feel denny should be allowed out on the streets of the united states. he belongs behind bars for the rest of his life, better yet hang him.
When Denny killed Don, he took away a great man: a dedicated father, husband, and Police Officer. Denny can't ever be paroled, because he can never be trusted again to live in society. I believe he will harm others if given the chance. Don lived and died protecting others and to parole Denny would would go against what Don dedicated his life to do for others. Denny had his chance to fit into society and refused to do so. Denny killed a police officer and robbed us of Don's love and his affect on our lives. Denny robbed us of more time with Don and the positive impact he could have continued to make on our lives if still alive. Don was proud of his family and we were all proud of him. I always looked up to Don and respected him: A man with beliefs and a giant heart that reached out to all. A deeply caring person that loved life and was dedicated to making society a safer and better for his family and community. I have never forgotten, his booming voice when he wanted to be heard, the twinkle in his eyes when he laughed or teased; his loving smile, and the joy and love of life he shared with us, just by being Don. We carry Don in our hearts and in all that he shared and taught us in your everyday life. Denny robbed us of more time with Don and the impact he could have continued to make on our lives---We miss you, Don. ---Your Little Flower Girl
Thank you for allowing me to review this case..Just unbeleivable..We need to voice strong opinions of unjustice with this crime. I July 2007 our family lost our cousin a California Highway Patrolmen to a murder, we was lying down a nail strip to stop a assalant in Northern California. My own son is a police officer. For all who have loved ones, family, friends all of this is just your worse nighmare....I pray that these terrible people who pray on society never never see the light of day, that they never know a day of peace nor never forget there crimes. Thank you for allowing me to respond.... B Rose/ Northern California
LIFE without the possibility of Parole. A trip to Oklahoma to be with his family should not change that decision.
ANY PERSON KILLING A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER SHOULD NOT BE PAROLED. HE SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO BE BY HIS FAMILY! DID HE GIVE ANY CONSIDERATION TO THE SOWMA FAMILY?
I sincerely hope that the killer who took Sergeant Sowma's life stays behind bars for the rest of his life. Being a Police Officer myself, I feel the pain of the slain officer's family. My prayers are with you.
This Man should have been executed.
No one who engaged in these activities, no one who murdered a peace officer, should be allowed parole -ever. The parole board understands recidivism and how many stories do we hear about parolees engaging in repeat offenses and more innocent people being killed. Please do not let this man out of prison.
Both of my son-in-laws are in law enforcement, one a CHP officer and the other LA Sheriffs. My heart goes out to all those who suffer losses of this type. I say Hang 'Em High..........
Never Never forget Sgt. Sowma. Let the cold blooded killer suffer in prison and put him in a far away prison AWAY from his family
Any man willing to take the lifes of those who put their lives on the line to protect others does not deserve to live, let alone given the chance to go free and risk doing it again.
These types of criminals do not deserve parole!
Denny should NOT be paroled. The sentence was "LIFE WITHOUT parole". What kind of message does it send to other criminals if he is let out on parole? If he thinks he has in some way rehabilitated and feels remorse, he can do positive work in prison - PERIOD! Good wishes to the Sowma Family and to those in law enforcement all across the country...and particularly friends I worked with at LBPD CA. God Bless all. nan, magnolia, ms
Your father will never be forgotten. Hopefully, the crimes committed by his killer will not be forgotten either. Gob bless your family.
My thoughts and prayers to your family.
I was a police officer in the UK I know the pain when you lose a wonderful colleague, my prayers and thoughts go to your family
My heart goes out to the family of Sergeant Sowma. I could not even imagine what the family has gone through, and is now going through knowing this COLD BLOODED KILLER will have the opportunity to for freedom. Sergeant Sowma, a man, father, son, husband, brother and now grandfather, gave up the rest of his life, his freedom, for the public should be given justice by keeping this killer in prison.
I am so sorry the family has to keep going through the pain of reliving the murder of their loved one. Typical California justice....keep victimizing the victim and family so the criminal isn't inconvenienced by their removal from society. He should die in prison, a California prison.
Denney cannot possibly be paroled - it would be an injustice of massive proportion. As a murderer of a police officer he must remain in prison forever, and more so given that he was a police officer in the past (although that fact beggars belief) and must therefore have known the line he crossed when he chose to commit this vile act. All sympathy and support to the Sowma family from the like-minded here in the UK.
Life in prison is costing me a tax payer money. My vote is to not pass "Go" do not collect 200 dollars, rather give him a lethal injection and be done with it.
"life in prison without possibility of parole" more words that mean nothing.
The Real heroes are those who have paid the ultimate price that we can maintain a level of confidence and safety in our day to day lifes. It is our responsibility to make sure no one ever forgets and that justice will prevail. Then all is not in vain Kindest Regards Mark Burris retired Deputy Sheriff Ca.
May the Dear God in Heaven grant justice in this matter .. G Alva California
Lets keep this dirt bag in Prison!
It now falls to us to continue the fight started by those fallen heroes so many years ago.
Justice has NO time limit. My thoughts are with the Sowma family.
My prayers are with you...God Bless.
I hope that this killer never gets out and rots in prison.
Thank you, from all of us, for the sacrifices you and your family were forced to make. I believe that people like this murderer should not be released for any reason back into society. Not only is he likely to do something as bad again, but the fact remains that he gave up his right to freedom when he took the life of another person. I don't care about punishment any longer, just keeping killers off the streets is enough.
I am in favor of the death penalty. Why would I desire to set free a murderer on the streets, and by doing so, endanger my family, my community, or, any other.
Sgt. Sowma's sacrifice for his family, his community, and his country will never be forgotten.
May this killer rot in prison and never, ever be released. May he never be transferred out of California again so he can visit his family. What is that? An accommodation for a cold blooded killer? What about the victims family? This whole situation is terrible. I thought California was a victims rights state? What happened?
May justice be done and this man not released. May the family be at peace with this.
The state of California is a wonderful state to live in, with it's leading technology, it's nation leading standard of living, and the personal rights administered to each resident, however, even considering letting a murderer like Denny, or any other person who takes a life, out of custody is a travesty. What is confusing about "LIFE WITHOUT THE POSSIBILTY OF PAROLE". Dosn't that mean "NO PAROLE". Denny committed an act that is irreversible and Sergeant Sowma is gone forever. His crime is unforgivable and Denny should be banned to prison FOREVER for his actions, regardless of how sorry he is or how much time he has already done........Jeff
He should have been given the death penalty. There is nothing greater that a police officer can offer than his or her life.
May your grief be kept in God's hands, who will do the right thing in this matter.
How can justice ever be served when we allow criminals to live there lives as if no one else was affected by there actions. This sends a bad signal to others. Anyone who kills a Police Officer has the right to be executed but in the case of our liberal courts, the least we can do for the families who's lives they have ruined is keep them locked up forever. These murders don't have the right to dictate or request anything from anyone.
No parole for the killer of any law enforcement personnel! God bless the Sowma family.
Justice is what victims expect, nothing less.
Since I've found out about this petition we've spread it everywhere we can at our department. Hopefully we'll get enough signatures to keep this animal in a cage.
how very sad and ironic the killer would be an ex police officer himself and what a pardon my french chicken shit thing to do kill a man apon his walking into a dark room
We are friends of Burt and we send along our two signatures. Seems like Denny should not be in Oklanhoma to be nearer his family either especially since they are letting him go before the board to ask for parole. I hope all is going well with your family now and that you are enjoying the four grandchildren. Susi and Wayne White
How about the death penalty instead of parole??
As a former Kansas City Missouri police officer, I am honored to sign your petition to deny Bobby Joe Denny his parole request. He needs to leave the confines of prison feet-first on a gurney. It is a tragedy for your family to have lost Don before his time, as it was a tragedy Denny's family had to be related to a cold-blooded killer. A fellow officer at that! Steve Schroeder, Birmingham Missouri
The fact that Denney himself was a police officer makes his crime even more tragic. He should never be paroled and should spend the rest of his days incarcerated in the state of California. Because of Denney's actions the Sowma himself and family has been deprived of seeing his chilren mature as individuals and adults. Also, Sowma never had a chance to meet any of his grandchildren and the grandchildren were deprived of experience of having a grandfather. If any family members want to see Denney, they can travel to see him in a prison in California. The only place the Sowma's get to visit is the cemetery to remember a life that was cut short, by the actions of a cold bloodied murderer.
Please let us know how this turns out. I hope he is denied parole.
Denny was sentenced to a life sentence without parole. He was coddled and allowed to be held near to his family. It is truly unfortunate that we as a society allow this type of injustice. Denny made bad decisions, he was justly convicted of murder, and sentenced to serve a specific term. A lenient sentence in my opintion. To now coddle him further by even considering parole is such a horrible slap in the face. I encourage the parole board to hold Denny to the consequences of his actions, and hold him for the remainder of his life. A sentence that is neither cruel or unreasonable, but lenient given the circumstances of Denney's crime against Don Sowma and the people of California. H. Figueroa Covina, CA
I hope by signing this petition, it keeps him in custody for life.
SOWMA FAMILY, THANK YOU FOR BEING STRONG AND FOR HONERING, YOUR HUSBAND, FATHER, BROTHER AND GRANDFATHER MEMORY...
I hope that you trust God in all you do.
with prayers to the Sowma's family
I pray that God comfort you and your family. That better days are coming for you all.
It is horrible that a peace officer was killed. It is worse to know that another so called peace officer was the one to do it. This man, of all people, knew what he was doing was wrong and made a choice to do it anyways. I don't know why/how he was spared the death penalty, but if anybody is a canididate for, he is. No apology can make up for what he did. With his heinious act, he forfeited the privilege to live as a free man. "Freedom isnt free," isn't a tag line, it's a statement of fact.
How dare anyone even support this individual being released after shooting down a police officer. What else can we do to keep him in there?
I'm sorry for your loss.
As a retired L.A. County Sheriff I'm continually amazed that we are so ignorant and totally without common sense when it comes to crime. A man who was serving his country and community was killed. We add to the families grief and trauma by even considering this mans petition. I am praying for the peace of this family, and the justice that must be. If your not going to execute this person then decency demands he NEVER be allowed out of prison.
Another failure in the JUSTICE system
.
I HAVE A SON AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT. WE MUST DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO KEEP THEM SAFE. EVEN IF IT MEANS KEEPING A KILLER BEHIND BARS.
I worked for Seal Beach PD (Station 41) from 1978 to 1988. Good luck in keeping this Adam Henry locked up!
I sincerely hope and pray that the murderer remains in prison where he belongs. The nerve of him even thinking he deserves the right to come out here and live free. Sergeant Sowmas family deserve better than that! We Care, Page Family
No way he should get out. It was cold-blooded murder.
God bless the Sowma family. Hopefully the Board will do the right thing.
The ever changing winds of political correctness allow these situations to surface. I pray for your peace of mind with the death of your loved one and the continued incarceration of the individual who took him from you.
He should have gotten the death penalty in the first place. Now he can die of old age prison. Either way, he's off the streets and can't kill another cop.
This man deserves to spend the rest of his natural life in prison.
I remember the night that Sgt. Sowma died very well and as a retired Police Lieutenant who lost one of his charges in the line of duty, I offer my blessings to the family. We give or blessing, but we know that nothing will replace the lose endured by this family. Sterling E. Putman Lt. Ret.
